Learn to weave your own black ash basket from a 3" square bottom to a 4.5" round top in this intriguing basket weaving workshop!
This Isadora's Choice basket is named after Joy's cat, Isadora, who claims every basket she can get her paws on as her own. It starts with a 3" square base at the bottom, and weaves out into a 4.5" diameter circle at the top. You will learn the techniques to properly phase out the weaving without using a form, and to attach your own rim and handles!
$40 materials fee included in ticket price.
Joy Smith is an experienced basket weaver with over 30 years of making baskets, and 25 teaching professionally. She has studied in New England to learn about Shaker and Nantucket style baskets, West Virginia to study weaving with white oak, and has traveled near and far to source wood. Most notably, she traveled to Washington State to source red cedar when she heard trees were being chopped down. Joy's favorite souvenir when travelling is material for her baskets; she has been known to harvest birch bark from hotel parking lots and to travel home with a stump for company.
