Here about 3000 local scientists, engineers and laboratory technicians plus thousands of visiting researchers work in the NASA space radiation lab ;the Accelerator Test facility ; Center for Functional Nanomaterials and in Labs seeking to improve electric batteries. The site hosts a Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider and will host the future Electron-Ion Collider as part of Brookhaven's nuclear physics program. This program explores the early universe and fundamental forces and particles . A massive multi states university project being funded now, by the Dept of Energy, involves pulling carbon dioxide from our atmosphere as a way to reduce the carbon footprint. It is known that corn uses carbon dioxide as part of its growth process. Brookhaven Labs project is : "Catalyst Study Advances Carbon-Dioxide-to-Ethanol Conversion | BNL Newsroom" (The Dept of Energy also awarded North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University nearly $1.8 million to study ways to capture carbon dioxide from the air.) For High school science teachers ,the Eastern Suffolk BOCES School Library System for High schools grants access to electronic resource materials from the Brookhaven Lab library, not readily available in school or public library collections.
