Press release from the County of Dane: February 17, 2022 At approximately 7:30 am, Dane County Sheriff's deputies responded to a traffic crash involving four vehicles on US Highway 14, just south of Waterman Road, in the town of Rutland. Investigators are still working to determine the exact sequence of events. A preliminary investigation shows a vehicle traveling northbound on HWY 14 veered over the centerline and side swiped a southbound vehicle and then struck a second southbound vehicle head-on. A fourth vehicle (northbound) was involved when it rear-ended the first northbound car. A male driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. A female driver was transported to a local hospital by EMS with minor injuries. The other two drivers, one male and one female, were not injured. There were no passengers in any of the vehicles involved. Highway 14 was closed in both directions until approximately 1:00 pm while crash reconstruction and the Crime Scene Unit investigated the scene.
