In Celebration of Black History Month, we are proud to be partnering with the Brickell City Centre through performance art of Black culture. The Brickell City Centre and the South Florida People of Color present “Diversity of the African Diaspora,” a cultural celebration presented for Black History Month. All of the Black cultures represented in Miami, whether Bahamian, Jamaican, Haitian, Cuban or American, carry elements of African traditions. Each week will feature performances celebrating the vibrant musical cultures that are a part of our South Florida community. Join us at the Garden Deck, Level 2 (in front of Zara) every Friday at 6pm throughout February to celebrate Black history with artists that are part of our community. There will be nonstop music with the DJ kicking it off at 5:30 and artists playing two sets for your enjoyment until 8:30pm. DJ ReRe will continue to spin until 9pm. Master of Ceremony Mo Beasley is an award-winning poet, published writer, arts educator, activist, and public speaker. This Boston native honed his skills in New York City and is now currently based in Miami Florida. DJ Rere International, Award-winning Dj ReRe is known as an energetic, dynamic and versatile DJ, effortlessly mastering genres from Top 40/EDM/House to Hip-Hop/R&B/Latin and beyond. February 4thLaVie Born in Miami and raised by her Haitian immigrant parents, LaVie is a shining example of living life to the fullest. Her name means which in French means “The Life,” she uses her music as a vehicle to encourage and empower all people. February 11th Othello Molineaux - born in Trinidad and Tobago, the dual island republic that also gave birth to the Steel Pan. He is a steelpan player who spent much of his early career with Jaco Pastorius. He was among the earliest musicians to adapt the steelpan to jazz.[1] He has worked with Monty Alexander, Chicago, and David Johansen. Othello is the only recording steel drummist/pianist to honor George “Sonny” Goddard, for his contribution to the steelband movement. He is one of the world’s more famous, recognized, awarded, experienced “pan pioneers” who happens to be alive and performing today. February 18th Leesa Richards Quartet A storyteller, a soulful voice offering a soundtrack to the narratives of life. Her sound taps into the deep roots of R&B, the poetry of Jazz and folk and the energy of rock. Feb 25th Marisol Blanco & Sikan Afrocuban Dance Project E.L.E.M.E.N.T.S. - R&B, Hip Hop band MARISOL BLANCO graduate of The National School of Arts (ENA). Master Teacher and graduate of Cuba’s prestigious Superior Institute of Arts (ISA). Presently training teachers at all levels in Afro-Cuban Folkloric, Popular/Latin/Caribbean traditional dances around the American Continent and the Diaspora. Professional dancer, teacher, performer and choreographer for more than 25 years. Earned popularity for her Rumba classes and special Afro-Cuban learning program “HPS” emphasizing the connection between history, percussion, song, step/body expression/technique, philosophy, psychology and methodology knowledge all interactive in her classes. E.L.E.M.E.N.T.S. stands for “Epically Levitating Every Minds Eye Neatly Through Sound.” E.L.E.M.E.N.T.S. is a R&B, Hip Hop band out of Miami. From its inception this dynamic group of musicians and art curators have been focused on providing invigorating sounds infused with various genres of music. E.L.E.M.E.N.T.S. has a unique sound that is R&B based and permeated with Soul, Funk, Jazz, Rock and Hip Hop. Dedicated to ending racism and bigotry by providing creative programs for open dialogue and personal connection across the racial, ethnic and cultural divide by connecting our neighbors to build stronger, more empathetic relationships.
