NORWICH, CT — The state Office of the Inspector General is investigating the death of a man while in Norwich police custody. The results of an autopsy are pending.
Brenton Chambers, 42, was arrested Feb. 3 by Norwich police on weapon, drug and violation of probation charges, according to the OIG.
Chambers was taken to Norwich Police Department and was booked. He complained of foot pain and was taken to a hospital for treatment, and was returned to the police department.
He collapsed in his cell shortly before 4 a.m. Feb. 4. OIG released video from the holding cell area. The video shows Chamber's body seizing before he slumped over. Officers entered his cell shortly after and began to render medical aid. Emergency medical technicians were also called to the holding cell area.
