MANASSAS, VA — A husband from Haymarket may have won Valentine's Day this year. While other's opted for candy or flowers, Maria Chicas's husband gifted her a winning lottery ticket worth $10,000,000. The winning ticket was the final prize from the Virginia Lottery's Extreme Millions Scratcher game. Lottery officials said they distributed four top prizes, and the game is now closed. "I thought he was joking," Chicas told lottery officials as she validated her ticket. Chicas's husband purchased the winning ticket at the In & Out Mart on Mathis Avenue in Manassas, lottery officials said. He scratched the ticket, realized it was a winner, and called his wife. "Aw, you're lying," Maria Chicas told her husband. He wasn't lying; the ticket was a winner. Chicas had the option to choose between $10,000,000 over 30 years or a one-time cash payment of $6,570,302 before taxes. She chose the cash option. The In & Out Mart that sold the winning ticket will also receive a $50,000 bonus. If you or someone you know has a gambling problem, the Virginia Council on Problem Gaming provides resources to help.
