Press release from Johnson City Public Library: Hannah Kiger 2022-02-18 Your Library, along with all the area libraries in the Organization of Watauga Libraries (OWL)*, is changing its catalog and circulation system from SirsiDynix to The Library Corporation's Library Solution (TLC) software. The new system will be available to you beginning on Wednesday, March 2! This is a massive change; there are around 780,000 library items and over 200,000 cardholders in OWL that have to be transferred to TLC. Because there is so much information to transfer, we'll be closed on Sunday, February 27 and Monday, February 28 for the final data migration. We'll open at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1. We're also briefly pausing holds to ensure that we don't lose any data in the transfer. You won't be able to place items on hold from Friday, February 25 through Wednesday, March 2. JCPL Director and OWL President Julia Turpin says, "We are all so excited to offer this new catalog. TLC is more modern, streamlined, and easier to navigate than our current system. Not only is it simpler for staff, but it also provides a higher quality experience for our users." TLC's catalog is mobile-friendly and includes new interactive features for you. For example, you can add subject and genre tags to materials to help others find them. You can also write book reviews for other users to see. And TLC offers automatically generated recommendations related to the titles that you view! For the most part, your account will not be affected; there isn't much you need to do once the switch to TLC is made. You won't need to get a new library card. And all your current holds, including holds on digital materials in R.E.A.D.S. and hoopla, will automatically transfer to the new system.
