Press release from Greater Louisville, Inc.: 2022-02-17 Earlier today, the Kentucky House Elections, Constitutional Amendments and Intergovernmental Affairs Committee passed House Bill 475, which is a top priority for GLI during the 2022 session. Vice president of government affairs and communications, Shelby Williams Somervell, joined the bill sponsor and other supporters to testify in support of the bill. President and CEO, Sarah Davasher-Wisdom, issued the following statement following the bill's passage: "GLI applauds the House Elections, Constitutional Amendments, and Intergovernmental Affairs Committee for passing House Bill 475, which will create a Constitutional Amendment to allow the General Assembly to rethink and recreate local taxation in the commonwealth. To maximize our economy's competitive advantage, Greater Louisville must modernize our outdated tax structures so we can reinvest in our region. Combined with comprehensive state tax reform, this legislation has the potential to accelerate our region's economic growth, promote business development, and help us better compete with our peer markets. We encourage the General Assembly to swiftly pass this legislation, which would then put it before voters in November."
