Hello again, Des Moines! Important update: You all, as readers, have made the Des Moines Daily so successful that it is my honor to announce the next stage of the newsletter. Here are the top three stories in Des Moines today: During the pandemic, multiple studies in the U.S. have shown a spike in alcohol consumption, including an increase in binge drinking. At the same time, the Des Moines chapter of Al-Anon, a support group for relatives of alcoholics, has seen attendance drop. Group members reported that as meetings were canceled and/or made virtual, fewer people showed up. Said interpreter Nabi Mohammadi, "We will make sure these computers go to those who have signed up for a class, for English class, or for college and we'll make sure that we are putting a good use for these computers." Over the last year, DMACC has also donated over three hundred laptops and iPads to students in need. (KCCI Des Moines)A Des Moines chiropractor has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to sexual abuse of children. In 2020, Joshua Hanisch lost his chiropractic license after being accused of sexually abusing six minor female clients as young as seven years old. In addition to his jail sentence, Hanisch will also spend the rest of his life as a registered sex offender.
