Avian Flu Hits Another Dubois County Farm

By Sarah Kuper, WNIN February 18, 2022 One week after the highly transmissible Avian Flu was detected in a Dubois County commercial turkey farm, another nearby farm has suspected cases as well. It was after the turkey farm's owner noticed the birds were not drinking water that the Indiana State Board of Animal Health was notified that the bird flu may have struck a second turkey farm in Dubois County. Results are still pending whether the virus spread from the first turkey farm or whether it is a different pathogen. Officials are testing all the poultry farms within a 10 kilometer radius of the infected birds and they are urging any "hobby poultry farmers" to schedule testing of their birds. All 18 of Dubois and northern Spencer counties' commercial poultry flocks are under quarantine. Turkey flocks with cases of avian flu are euthanized. According to the USDA, several Asian nations have blocked poultry imports from Indiana for at least 90 days. Avian flu was last detected in the US in 2020.
