EVSC Drops Mask Mandate

John Gibson, WNIN February 18, 2022 Masks are no longer required in the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation. On its website, the EVSC noted that eligibility for COVID-19 vaccines has expanded to students ages 5 and up, and that more than 70 percent of Vanderburgh County residents now have either been vaccinated or have developed antibodies from contracting the virus in the previous 90 days. The school corporation also says positive cases within the EVSC have dropped to the lowest levels of this academic year, and student and staff absenteeism rates have also declined dramatically. Citing that information, the EVSC says masks will now be optional inside all of its facilities, beginning Wednesday. Masks will still be required on school buses, due to a federal mandate. And unvaccinated individuals in schools will still be required to quarantine at home should they be identified as a close contact to a person who is confirmed COVID positive. The EVSC says it will continue to closely monitor all COVID related data and remain in contact with the Vanderburgh County Health Department for any future guideline changes.
