PITTSBURGH, PA — Former Pennsylvania Department of Health Acting Secretary Alison Beam has been hired UPMC as the Pittsburgh-based health care conglomerate's new vice president of government affairs and chief government officer. Beam last year became acting health secretary acting secretary of health, following the departure of Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine, who joined the Biden administration. She stepped down from the position at the end of 2021. Beam earlier served as Gov. Tom Wolf's deputy chief of staff and chief of staff for the Pennsylvania Insurance Department. Beam also served as director of public policy for Independence Blue Cross. "It is an honor to take on this role, as I have experienced first-hand UPMC's firm commitment to serving the community and advocating for optimal health care for citizens of the state and beyond," Beam said in a statement. Beam will succeed Scott Baker, who is retiring in June after a decade at UPMC and more than three decades of government service and affairs.
