After a 2 year hiatus, the State Street Players need only wait 2 weeks for their big Opening Night, Friday, March 4, 2022. This year's 43rd Annual Assault on the Performing Arts—entitled Memories I Forgot to Remember—will be held March 4, 5, 11, 12, 18 and 19, 2022, in the Our Lady of Mount Carmel School Auditorium, 225 East Ashland Street, Doylestown, PA. The troupe's 2020 production was cut short in March 2020, due to COVID. They were able to perform one weekend before cancelling the rest of the run. The production was dark in 2021 for the pandemic. Eric Nitschke, director for the 2022 show, notes the State Street Players' annual shows are perfect for audiences who want to unplug their digital entertainment and spend an evening out enjoying live entertainment at a reasonable price. "In the age of athletes and movie stars whose values and performances leave many people scratching their heads, the State Street Players offer a simpler form of entertainment provided by people who work for a living and volunteer their time and energy to the performing arts," Nitschke said. For each for the past 43 years, more than 100 Doylestown-area residents write, produce and perform the annual show, as well as build their own sets and construct the stage itself in the Our Lady of Mount Carmel School auditorium. Nitschke explained this down-home theme takes audience members on frolicking romp through the rich history of TV, film, Broadway, and Americana. "The audience will recognize many songs from the past through today, plus some classic TV and movie scenes they wouldn't have expected," he said, adding that song-and-dance routines are interspersed with comedy skits, heavy on physical and satirical humor. The group will spend a total of six months in production, from initial writing in October until the March show dates. Several members have been involved with the show for all 42 prior productions. Long-time members credit the group's longevity to the creativity and enthusiasm of its members, who represent many careers and backgrounds. Businesses around Doylestown and the surrounding areas can get visibility from the nearly 2,000 total audience attendees by advertising in the show program, or donating goods and services for raffle baskets to be raffled off at each of the six shows.
