Description
To some people, $30 TRILLION DOLLARS in debt is a lot. Yesterday, one of the US Senators from Indiana proposed an amendment to a continuing resolution (to keep the government open for a few months) adding fiscal constraint or sanity, in other words. The proposed amendment would have required a balanced federal budget within 10 years; why the heck not?
I thought of a few possible reasons on a purely speculative basis-
1. It was all too sudden.
2. Regular order must be observed for important things.
3. The right people did not support it.
4. What budget problem?
(The partisan reasons can be found on the preceding page).

To certain people these reasons would be fine, but are they the actual reason? The amendment needed 60 votes to pass and fell short (despite bi-partisan support) as you can see in the attached image.
You (Oregon) voted "Nay" (NO) in case you didn't know.
