Utility Pipe Layer SSP Industries, LP in Killeen, Tx. is looking for Utility Pipe Layers for our underground utility division with the following qualifications: 1. Responsibilities a. Locate existing underground utilities by hand digging (potholing). b. Install underground waterlines, sanitary sewer lines and storm sewer lines. c. Backfill waterlines, sanitary sewer lines and storm drain lines utilizing vibratory plates, tampers (jumping jacks) and remote-controlled trench compactors. d. General labor and other construction activities as assigned. 2. Safety a. Willing to promote, execute and adhere to SSP’s safety program. b. Wear PPE as required. c. OSHA 10-hour safety training. This can be obtained upon employment. d. Regular safety training will be provided. 3. Qualifications and experience requirements a. Able to work well with others on the crew. b. Good attendance and dependability. c. At least 2 years’ experience is preferred. d. Good knowledge of various hand and power tools utilized for underground pipe installation. e. Physically able to twist, stoop, bend, kneel, ascend ladders, descend ladders, and walk on uneven ground. f. Able to read a tape measure and make accurate measurements. 4. Preferred skills a. Able to read and understand plans and plan details. b. Able to set up and operate a pipe laser. c. Able to “shoot” elevations and calculate grades with a level and rod. Pay will be commensurate with skills and experience.
