CDL DRIVER Class A/Field Helper Job Description Summary Transport equipment and materials while operating a tractor-trailer truck, sometimes over city routes or spanning several states. Load and unload cargo. Must be over 21, drug-free and clean driving record. Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Transport materials and equipment to various locations within and outside of North Carolina General maintenance of assigned truck; washing, servicing, minor repairs, etc. Maintain IFTA mileage log Federal inspections Tags Quarterly inspections on trailers Monthly fuel tank readings Conduct daily inspections of the vehicle for mechanical and safety issues; report any problems or damage Comply with all DOT and in-house regulations and rules Document and log work/rest periods and miles spent driving and retain fuel/toll receipts Tool inspections in shop Fire extinguisher inspections Assist with miscellaneous duties such as trash and local runs to gather or deliver items. Competencies Valid CDL Class A Driver License DOT/CDL Medical Certification Attention to detail Communicate proficiently Work Environment This job requires hours of driving on various roadways and weather can require inside or outside work and in various weather conditions (rain, snow, heat, cold). Work may include hazards of operating equipment, power tools, and the presence of chemicals, dust and fumes. Noise level can be loud. Personal Protection Equipment is required: Safety shoes, safety glasses, hard hats, ear plugs, and gloves while on a job site. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Regularly requires sitting, standing, walking, reaching, bending, climbing and moving about. It also requires good vision and hearing. May be required to lift or move up to 50 lbs. Travel Local day travel and occasional overnight travel will be required. Other Criteria All candidates must have a valid driver's license, pass drug screen and background check. Demonstrate ability to tactfully handle difficult situations. Consistently demonstrate ability to recognize and deal with priorities. Perform duties in an independent manner with minimal direction and supervision. Recognize and perform duties which need to be performed, although not directly assigned, assisting others as needed. Consistent communication with Equipment Manager, Shop Manager and site Foremen. Seek guidance and direction, as necessary, for performance of duties.
