WAKE COUNTY, NC — A North Carolina woman is suing social media platform Snapchat and dating app Tinder, claiming Snapchat encouraged the distribution of images of her sexual assault and that Tinder destroyed evidence in the case against her assailants.
Aaliyah Palmer, who claims she was sexually assaulted at a party in January 2017 after meeting a group of soldiers stationed at Fort Bragg through Tinder Social, filed the lawsuit in Wake County Superior Court on Thursday.
Though no one was ever charged in connection with Palmer's assault, the case helped change a 40-year-old state Supreme Court ruling that consent could not be revoked during sexual intercourse.
