Description

A talk by Betsy J. Green in honor of Women's History Month Great changes were on the horizon for women as the second decade of the 1900s opened. The corsets and bustles of decades past gave way to the new freedoms of modern dress. The spread of electricity and of new appliances helped relieve the drudgery of housework while at the same time opportunities in the workplace multiplied. And, towards the end of the decade, women got the vote and even went to war. Betsy J. Green has been writing and speaking about local history for well over 30 years. She is the author of “Discovering the History of Your House and Your Neighborhood,” “MESApedia,” and the “Way Back When” Series, which celebrate the yearly social history of Santa Barbara 100 years ago. Betsy currently authors a very popular column in the Santa Barbara Independent, entitled “The Great House Detective.” Our Mission is to inspire meaningful connections to Santa Barbara history.
