Back by popular demand, Doug Thomas graces our stage with his Tribute to AMERICA !!! Doug Thomas was born the youngest of nine in Detroit Michigan. Singing in the kitchen after dinner with his siblings was a daily affair. Harmonies filled the air. He picked up the guitar at nine years old and never put it down. He started middle school in a little northern Michigan town where he still spends his summers after the family moved out of the city. He passed much of his time playing his guitar and learning songs by Cat Stevens, James Taylor, Crosby Stills Nash and Young. Doug received his Vocal Music Education Degree as a Vocal Performance major after student teaching with his high school choir teacher. Now he is retired from teaching high school vocal music in Northern Michigan and has performed throughout Michigan for many years. His band My Generation was voted the best live music in Northern Michigan by the Northern Express and has been a favorite at classic car shows like “Back to the Bricks”. His song list has grown into the thousands. His favorites still include James Taylor, Neil Young, Cat Stevens and America which he performs tributes to, however his song list includes other styles and genres, Wintering in Clearwater these days, you can find him singing at many area restaurants. Doug also entertains at many private and corporate events. Doug strives to honor the songs he performs in a manner that evokes emotions and feelings worthy of the songwriting. Doug’s genuine style of emulating the artists he sings has brought him popularity and many special experiences over the years The Common Ground LOCATED AT: 12735 Tamiami Trail North Port, Florida At the Warm Mineral Springs Turnoff ------------------------------------------------- A marriage of the Irish meeting halls of Dublin with the New York coffee houses of the 1960’s.   During the day, Common Grounds is a meeting hall for a wide range of community and civic groups, educational classes and conferences.  At night, we become a 50 seat, intimate performance venue with a state of the art sound system for acoustic musicians, poets, comedians, and performers.
