SARASOTA, FL — The world can always use a little more kindness. And National Random Acts of Kindness Day, observed Thursday, Feb. 17, is an ideal opportunity to spread the importance of being kind and helping others. This is especially true during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, with many people around the world still recovering financially, physically and emotionally. This year's theme for the day is "Make kindness the norm." Throughout the day, people are encouraged to share acts of kindness — whether simple gestures to brighten someone's day or a larger act of goodwill that might have changed someone's life — that they've witnessed or been a part of on social media along with #MakeKindnessTheNorm. Here are some of the responses we received: Changing smoke detector batteries "Came over and replaced the batteries in my beeping smoke detectors. (My ceilings are 12-feet high, so she had to bring her ladder.)
