Seattle WA
Description
Flourish NW hopes to find a part-time garden assistant to help us co-create and tend a sweet selection of residential gardens in Seattle. Right now, our clients are all close by – Wallingford, Queen Anne, Magnolia, and one special garden in Blue Ridge. The work is part-time, 1-3 days a week during the growing season, depending on your availability and desires. I keep the schedule very flexible and this job can accommodate school, other work, and the inevitable exigencies of life. I love co-creating a plan that works for everyone. About me: I’ve run my landscaping business for 23 years, and still truly enjoy the work. (I’m also a little crazy about plants.) I’ve always specialized in ecologically-minded garden maintenance, installation, and restoration, and have some of the nicest, most supportive, and loyal clients anyone could ever want. Flourish NW is fully licensed, bonded, insured, and utterly fanatic about making gardens that look wonderful and feel inviting and rewarding, all year-round. Permaculture, organic, and sustainable techniques are our stock in trade. We use our hands, our heads, and our hearts to do our work, not raging power tools. You, we hope, have an instinctive and abiding curiosity about how the natural world really works in cultivation, on the deepest and most integral level: how plants and soil, water and sun, bugs and fungi, people and priorities all fit together in a garden. You strive to enable and encourage beautiful, healthy, sustainable systems, while being paid well for your work. You love learning (but of course you want to be earning, too. :) You have a beautiful life you are creating, and your work in the natural world supports that. Starting pay is $20 to $30/hour, depending on your current horticultural knowledge, training, and experience. Flourish employees tend to advance rapidly, in both pay and responsibilities. Learning the ropes can happen quickly, and hard, skilled, and meticulous work is always rewarded. A sturdy pair of boots, rain gear, and a way to reliably get to the job site are the only things I expect you to bring along. (Though snacks are also welcome—those who flourish love to share!) And, as mentioned above, we are licensed, bonded, and insured, and anyone who works with us is covered by WA L&I and paid “on the books”, with full FICA and unemployment insurance provided. If you are intrigued or want to know more, please take a moment to let me know why you are interested in working as a gardener and why Flourish NW sounds like a good fit for you. (Also, bonus points for telling me about your favorite plant. :) Oh….and while I love a good read, short stories or poems would impress more than a novel, if you get my drift. Many thanks! Emily / Owner and Gardener-In-Chief Flourish NW
