WESTPORT, CT — A man accused of stealing items from an office in Westport, including an industrial scanner worth almost $20,000, was arrested last week on burglary and other charges, according to police.
In a news release, Police Lt. Dave Wolf said the burglary was reported the morning of Jan. 26 on Sylvan Road South.
A man told officers an unknown person entered his office sometime between 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 25 and 7 a.m. the next day and stole various items, including an industrial scanner worth nearly $20,000, Wolf said.
On Feb. 10, officers discovered a man, later identified as Zachary Elson, 39, of Westport, was trying to sell the stolen scanner, Wolf said.
Westport detectives then arranged to "purchase" the scanner from Elson the following day and arrested him when he arrived at a predetermined location to complete the transaction. Elson was in possession of the scanner at the time of the arrest, Wolf said.
Elson was charged with third-degree burglary and first-degree larceny. He was also served an outstanding warrant for failure to pay or plead charges, Wolf said.
He was held on a $2,500 bond and was scheduled to appear in court earlier this week.
