Description
Press release from Stamford Public Schools: February 16, 2022 - 4:20pm As most of you are aware, the Governor's Executive Order requiring a mask mandate in schools has been extended until Monday, February 28, 2022, when mask requirements will become a local decision. With guidance from the Acting Stamford Director of Health, the recommendation from the Office of the Superintendent is that students and staff will be required to wear masks while inside all school buildings through Tuesday, March 15, 2022. Beginning on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, mask wearing will be highly recommended – but no longer required – for all staff and students. Further information will be shared after the Board of Education holds its meeting on Wednesday, February 23, 2022. Please note this mask recommendation is subject to change with continued guidance from our health professionals. This recommendation has been made with a clear focus on health and safety of staff, students, and their families or high risk/vulnerable family members, social emotional wellness, and quality educational experiences for students and staff. Stamford Public Schools and the Stamford Health Department continue to collaborate as we navigate the various aspects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Factors we focus on include: It should be noted, Federal requirements mandate that students must continue to wear masks on buses regardless of the changes to our in-school requirements. It is anticipated that additional guidance will be provided by the state about isolation and quarantine requirements when masks are no longer required, as well as specific guidance for our Pre-K APPLES program given that most students in the program are currently not age-eligible for the vaccine. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Stay Safe and Healthy! Dr. Tamu Lucero Superintendent of Schools This press release was produced by Stamford Public Schools.
