The Golf Course Superintendent and/or General Manager has the authority to add to, take from or otherwise change the scope of responsibilities as necessary to properly manage the day-to-day operation of the Big Canoe Property Owners Association (POA). POSITION SUMMARY The Groundskeeper position is responsible for the safe and timely execution of job tasks pertaining to the maintenance of the golf course amenity. *The golf course superintendent is the ultimate decision maker for the maintenance department, and as such, will have final authority in all disputes/disagreements relating to the operation of the department. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Groundskeepers are responsible for operating utility vehicles and small engine tools in a safe manner, within the guidelines of the manufacturer’s specifications. 2. Aid in the preventative maintenance practices of equipment as directed by supervisors and the head mechanic. 3. Checking fluid levels, safety features and tire pressure of utility vehicles prior to operation and throughout the work day. 4. Cleaning all tools and carts at the end of the day. 5. Communicate any perceived malfunctions of tools or safety features and protective housings to the head mechanic. 6. Jobs must be completed within the timeframe set by the superintendent without sacrificing customer service. Be mindful of the noise created by small engines and minimize these sounds whenever golfers are near. QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS 1. This position requires ability to work with one’s hands in a variety of manual labor situations. 2. This position requires a valid driver's license. 3. Basic knowledge of small engine equipment operation and preventative maintenance. 4. Safety oriented. 5. Trustworthy to work without continuous supervision. 6. A customer service mentality. WORK REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENT 1. This position requires some heavy lifting, up to 80 lbs., walking up and down steep terrain, and sitting for long periods of time. 2. Most work is conducted out-of-doors. There is inherent risk involved when exposed to the natural elements, including sunburn, frost bite, dehydration, heat exhaustion, heat stroke, lightning strike, insect bite, encounters with wild animals, and falling debris. 3. Must be able to work early mornings, late nights, weekends and holidays as the superintendent dictates to assist in the golf course maintenance department’s 363 days/year operation.
