HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Howard County General Hospital will hold free health education classes and support groups in March and April. The virtual diabetes support group is an ongoing virtual support group for individuals with prediabetes and Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes as well as caregivers. Participants will receive educational resources and social and emotional support to help with diabetes management. First Thursday of the month from 6 to 7:30 p.m. via Zoom Third Thursday of the month from 10 to 11:30 a.m. via Zoom Register at bit.ly/VirtualDiabetesGroup. Living Well with Chronic Disease Toolkit in Spanish (Tomando Control de su Salud: El Kit de herramientas Para vivir bien) is a free six-week self-management program where participants learn skills to help manage chronic health conditions. The Living Well Toolkit will be mailed to participants and includes self-paced materials and activities. Each week, participants will meet with instructors in a small-group 30-minute conference call to discuss their self-management progress. Saturdays, March 5 to April 9, from 10 to 10:30 a.m. via Zoom The workshop will be presented in Spanish only. Virtual Living Well with Chronic Disease is a six-week virtual workshop for individuals living with or at risk for chronic conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, depression, arthritis, lung disease or other long-lasting health concerns. Participants will learn techniques to cope with feelings of frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation, develop skills to communicate more effectively about their health and learn exercises and healthy eating habits to maintain and improve well-being. Caregivers are welcome. Mondays, March 7 to April 11, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. via Zoom Saturdays, March 12 to April 16, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. via Zoom Register at bit.ly/startlivingwell. Cancer Self-Management will help participants learn to thrive with cancer. Virtual sessions will present skills in handling pain and fatigue, nutrition, difficulty sleeping, communication and emotions, regaining and maintaining flexibility and endurance and choosing treatments and therapies. Participants will share experiences and identify solutions in a supportive environment. Caregivers are welcome.
