MORRISTOWN, NJ — Art in the Atrium has exhibited work from Black artists for more than 30 years in Morristown. Two of the pieces have a new, temporary home: Rep. Mikie Sherrill's office in Washington, D.C. "Making My Way" by Leroy Campbell and "Never Forget I" by Janice Jamison were brought to the congresswoman's office on loan to honor Black History Month. Campbell; Jamison's mentor, Wanetta Phillips; and Art in the Atrium Executive Director Lauren LeBeaux Craig joined Sherrill for a discussion on the artwork. Watch the discussion here: "For 30 years, Art in the Atrium has brought fine art, history, and inspiration to NJ-11, while highlighting the works of both local and world-renowned Black artists," Sherrill said. "Both of these pieces truly brighten my office and it was so special spending time with Lauren, Leroy, and Wanetta during Black History Month to discuss the art and ATA's history." Art in the Atrium is a nonprofit, volunteer arts organization founded by Charles and Viki Craig in Morristown in 1991. Since its inception, Art in the Atrium has annually exhibited four floors of African-American fine art at the Atrium Gallery in Morristown. The organization is celebrating Black History Month with an exhibit at the Mayo Performing Arts Center's Art Upstairs and Starlight Galleries. The exhibit runs through March 6. Find more info here. "ATA is thrilled to have pieces by two of our most celebrated and treasured artists, Leroy Campbell and Janice Jamison, placed in Congresswoman Sherrill's Washington, D.C., office for all who enter to enjoy," Lauren LeBeaux Craig said. "No matter your ideologies or beliefs, art brings people together, and we are honored to be represented in such a meaningful way in our nation's capital." Thanks for reading. Have a news tip?
