ALLEGHENY COUNTY, PA — The good news: According to AAA, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in the county Thursday was $3.65, below the Pennsylvania average of $3.71. The bad news: A gallon of gas in the county still is well above the national average of $3.52 per gallon. More good news: There are places to get gas in the county that are considerably cheaper than the county average, according to GasBuddy. The recent climb in pump prices primarily is attributable to the high cost of crude oil, according to AAA. Moderating winter weather and optimism over a possible decline in COVID-19 cases have led to an increase in gas demand. "More drivers fueling up here coupled with a persistent tight supply of oil worldwide provides the recipe for higher prices at the pump," AAA spokesperson Andrew Gross said in a news release. "And unfortunately for consumers, it does not appear that this trend will change anytime soon." Fortunately, there are places to get gas in the county that were considerably cheaper than the county average as of Thursday afternoon, according to GasBuddy. Here are the least expensive places to fill up the tank in Allegheny County: Sheetz, University Boulevard, Moon: $3.35 Sunoco & 7-Eleven, Library Road, Castle Shannon: $3.39 Costco, Costco Drive, Robinson: $3.44 Sam's Club, Summit Park Drive, North Fayette: $3.44 TJ's Deli Mart, Steubenville Pike, Robinson, $3.44 US Gas, Ohio River Boulevard, Bellevue: $3.45 Sam's Club, Century Drive, West Mifflin: $3.46 Sam's Club, William Penn Highway, Monroeville: $3.48 Costco, Waterfront Drive, Homestead: $3.49 Sunoco, Library Road, Castle Shannon: $3.49 Be the first to know what's happening in your community and region.
