100 Car Pileup Shuts Down Interstate 39 Through Friday Morning

EL PASO, IL — Thursday's wintry conditions led to multiple crashes involving more than 100 vehicles along Interstate 39 near El Paso. Illinois State Police said I-39 southbound from Normal to Minonk will be closed until at least 6 a.m. Friday morning. ISP said in a news release it is working diligently with local partners to "ensure motorists are safely escorted from the area to warming centers." Earlier in the day, traffic was being diverted from I-39 southbound at El Paso (Exit 14) onto IL 251 to bypass the crash site. El Paso is located about 30 miles east of Peoria.
