Addison Company Awarded Bid For $4.9M Naperville Streetscape Plan

NAPERVILLE, IL — The City of Naperville has awarded the construction contract for a projected $4.9 million streetscape project to an Addison company that will begin work on the phased plan early next month. The city announced this week that the RJ Dunteman Company at a meeting on Tuesday night. The work is scheduled to begin on March 1 and will be conducted in stages to minimize disruption to the downtown business district and to local residents. Naperville city officials will hold an open house on Tuesday that will allow local merchants and residents to learn more about the streetscape project. The event will be hosted by the Downtown Naperville Alliance from 3:30-7:30 p.m. at the Old Gap Building located at 225 S. Main St. The Daily Herald reported that a recent engineer's study estimates the work will come in 5 percent higher than expected and will likely cost an estimated $5.1 million. The streetscape project was delayed by a year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and to minimize the burden being felt by local businesses struggling with the pandemic. The work will take place between Main and Webster streets along Jefferson Avenue. The project will include replacing pavement with asphalt travel lanes and to replace curbs, gutters and sidewalks. Work will also be done to storm drains and sewers, the city said. City officials have said that it is important that the work start soon as to avoid further delays – possibly until 2024 – due to the reconstruction of the Washington Street bridge.
