Description
MANHATTAN, IL — A home under construction in the 13000 block of West Memorial Drive in Manhattan caught fire Thursday, according to Manhattan Fire Protection District officials.
The Manhattan Fire Protection District was dispatched to the home at approximately 8:21 a.m., officials said. Fire crews encountered smoke showing from the two-story home.
Firefighters entered the home and found a working fire on the first floor extending to the second floor, officials said.
A callout for additional fire crews and equipment was made, including to New Lenox Fire Protection District, East Joliet Fire Protection District, Frankfort Fire Protection District, Peotone Fire Protection District, Mokena Fire Protection District, Elwood Fire Protection District, Lockport Fire Protection District, Manteno Fire Protection and Coal City Fire Protection District.
The fire was extinguished in about 10 minutes, officials said.
No injuries were reported to the construction crew at the scene or any of the firefighters, officials said.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, officials said.
