CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL — A 60-year-old Ford Heights man is dead after a fire Wednesday morning, officials told Patch. According to authorities, firefighters were called to a house fire at 1410 Portland Avenue at around 4:25 a.m. Wednesday. When they arrived, officials said they discovered the fire started in the basement of the two-story building and searched the structure for residents. On the second floor of the home, emergency personnel found 60-year-old Dennis Perkins in full cardiac arrest. Paramedics told reporters he was unconscious and likely suffering from smoke inhalation.
