ROSWELL, GA — One Roswell mother has one less task to do in the morning. Her 16-month-old son, Lock Samples, was diagnosed with rare uncombable hair syndrome, reported WAGA-TV.
Katelyn Samples told the station that Lock was born with normal baby hair, but around six-months, his hair suddenly changed.
His hair doesn't easily get wet and when it's dry, it won't lay flat, Samples told the station.
"The hair strand is like a triangle shape and twisted," she said. "Every single individual strand is that way."
A stranger saw Lock's photos and messaged Samples, asking if he had uncombable hair syndrome, reported the Daily Mail. Lock has his own Instagram account, @uncombable_locks, with about 3,100 followers.
That's when Samples told the Daily Mail that she asked their pediatrician, who referred her to a pediatric dermatologist at Emory University. The diagnosis was confirmed, reported the Daily Mail. The condition is extremely rare with around just 100 cases worldwide.
His mom told WBZ News Radio 1030 that Lock's hair care routine is fairly simple.
"His hair doesn't need to be washed much, maybe once a week. It's water-resistant so it takes a minute to saturate with water and gentle shampoo."
