Zeta Nixes In-Person Classes For Mooresville, Iredell Schools

MOORESVILLE, NC — Tropical Storm Zeta's inland advance on the Carolinas prompted schools throughout Mooresville and Iredell County to cancel in-person instruction Thursday. The National Weather Service issued a Tropical Storm Warning for the region Thursday morning until further notice, it said. Zeta is expected to continue to weaken as the center moves rapidly northeast across north Georgia toward North Carolina Thursday morning. Maximum sustained winds are expected to be in the 25 to 35 mph range with gusts as high as 45 mph. "At this time, they are forecasting sustained winds of 30 mph and gusts of 50 mph, with the potential for even higher speeds," Mooresville Graded Schools said in a statement. "These wind readings are outside of the guidelines for safely operating a school bus, as well as having students in our mobile units." Here are the schedule changes announced by Mooresville Graded Schools: K - 5th grade students: There will be no in-person learning for cohorts scheduled to be at school tomorrow. Your student will receive asynchronous assignments from their teachers via DOJO by 9:00am 6th - 12th grade students and MOA: Your synchronous classes will proceed as normal. If a student was scheduled to be on campus for in-person learning or activities, they should not attend. There will be no lunch deliveries or pick-ups available tomorrow. Iredell-Statesville Schools announced Thursday would be a virtual class day for its students, as well. "All staff will be expected to work virtually or report at their regular time with caution or use appropriate leave for missed or reduced shifts," ISS said. "I-SS employees should contact their supervisor if they have questions about your work options for tomorrow."
