2 Charged After Stolen Goods Found In U-Haul Behind Sam's: MPD

MOORESVILLE, NC — Two people were arrested in Mooresville Monday after a report of a suspicious vehicle behind Sam's Club led to the discovery of nearly $29,000 in drinks and candy purchased with stolen credit cards, according to the Mooresville Police Department. Officers responding to the store located at 646 River Highway in Mooresville and found a man and a woman, neither of whom in possession of identification, in a U-Haul truck parked behind the store. "Officers developed probable cause to search the vehicle and discovered several cases of Red Bull, Monster Energy Drink, Skittles, Ensure and various types of candy packed into the back of the truck," MPD said in a statement. According to police, an investigation determined that the 985 items that were valued at $28,581 had been purchased at numerous Sam's Club stores using fraudulently obtained memberships and stolen credit card numbers Clavonna Miranda Jenkins-Kersey, 22, of Chesterfield, Virginia, was charged with conspiracy to obtain property by a false pretense; and obstruct & delay for giving a fictitious name. She was held under a $7,500 bond. Isaiah Thomas Maldonado, 27, of New York, New York, was charged with conspiracy to obtain property by a false pretense. He was held under a $5,000 bond. MPD said the investigation remains ongoing and that both suspects posted bond.
