MOORESVILLE, NC — A shopping trip at Walmart led to a $100,000 lottery win for Mooresville resident William Stanley. Stanley bought the winning $20 "Gold Rush" ticket from a vending machine at the Walmart on Supercenter Drive in Kannapolis. "Once in a while I'll buy a ticket out of the machine and just grabbed one," Stanley said, according to the North Carolina Education Lottery. "I waited until I left and scratched it and realized it was a winner. I was like, 'Oh, cool!'" Stanley claimed his prize, which was $70,756 after state and federal taxes, Monday at NCEL headquarters in Raleigh. It's going straight into savings, he told lottery officials. "It's a bonus," he said. NCEL unveiled the $4 million Gold Rush lottery game in August. It has three top prizes of $4 million and six $100,000 prizes. As of Tuesday, one $4 million prize and two $100,000 prizes remain, NCEL said.
