SANDY SPRINGS, GA — Just days after the second anniversary of the death of Sandy Springs woman, an arrest was made Thursday, closing a chapter in the 2018 murder of Kay Thomasson.
James Christopher Jones, 24, was arrested Thursday at a home in Decatur by the Sandy Springs Police Department, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Office. He was transported to the Fulton County Jail.
On June 27, 2018, Thomasson, 71, was murdered in the early morning at her Sandy Springs home on Old Woodbine Road in the Derby Hills neighborhood.
Thomasson was murdered during the early morning hours of June 27, 2018 at her home on Old Woodbine Road, which is located off Peachtree Dunwoody Road. Officers were called to the home by family members after Thomasson missed an appointment she was scheduled to attend. Police say Jones also took the woman's vehicle, which was found a few days later at an apartment complex in Chamblee.
After an investigation, Sandy Springs Police detectives were able to identify Jones as the person responsible for murdering Thomasson. Under this investigation, Jones has been charged with the following:
Murder Murder during the commission of a burglary Aggravated assault with intent to murder Burglary 1st degree False imprisonment Theft by taking motor vehicle "This case was very complex, and our detectives worked non-stop to bring it to a successful conclusion with an arrest," Sandy Springs Police Chief Ken DeSimone said. "We want to thank the U.S. Marshals Office for their continued partnership and support in making this arrest."
