Sandy Springs Police Arrest Man Involved In Fatal Hit-And-Run

SANDY SPRINGS, GA — The Sandy Springs Police Department's Traffic Unit has made an arrest following the investigation of a fatal hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a pedestrian. Shortly before 3 a.m. on Wednesday, Sandy Springs Police officers responded to Ga. 400 North near Spalding Drive regarding a pedestrian that had been struck by a vehicle. Officers arrived to the area and found the deceased victim on the highway. On Wednesday evening, through their investigation, investigators learned the identity of the vehicle and driver responsible for causing the death of the victim. Members of the Sandy Springs Police Traffic Unit and Street Crimes Unit located and arrested the driver, identified as Hugo Rodriguez-Perez, 34, of Douglasville. The suspect was taken into custody at a residence in Douglasville without incident and the 2007 Honda Civic was taken to the Sandy Springs Police Department for processing. Rodriguez-Perez has been charged with first degree felony vehicular homicide, felony hit-and-run, and ther charges are forthcoming, pending the conclusion of the investigation Sandy Springs Police Traffic Investigators, after speaking with witnesses and gathering evidence, were able to determine that the involved vehicle had fled the scene upon striking the victim.
