CONCORD, NC — Concord's Afton Tavern will not reopen until Wednesday so it can be thoroughly sanitized after two of its employees were exposed to someone with the new coronavirus, the tavern announced on Facebook Monday morning.
According to the post, two people who work at the tavern are in self-isolation after coming into contact with someone who later tested positive for the virus.
The tavern's post said the business is not required to close under the circumstances, but "we are not taking this pandemic, and our responsibility as an essential business, lightly."
Afton's owners said they will stay in close contact with the Cabarrus Health Alliance and will work to sanitize the tavern during the closure. They are also encouraging workers who have been in close contact with the two employees to get tested for the virus.
"We have been so humbled by the community support we have received during this time and thank you for your continued patronage," the post read. "It is with all of our amazing guests and team members in mind that we have made the difficult decision to take very serious precautions."
