Description
If someone reaches out to you from a local rescue about taking your pet that you are wanting to re-home please be cautious. Anyone can call themselves a rescue but that does not mean they are legit. Some things to check out:
1. Do they have a webpage or only social media? Webpages will typically be an indicator of a more established organization with supports that will ensure the safety of your pet
2. Check if they are a 501(c)3 with the IRS. This can be another sign that it is a trusted organization
3. Ask around on the Tucson rehoming pages if the person is known in the rescue community and credible
4. Ask about the plans for your pet. Will they be rehomed, and if so what kind of medical and training is provided and how are adopters screened?
Please take every precaution that if you go the "rescue route" that you make sure it is the best choice. Sadly there are hoarders in Tucson posing as rescues where pets are not safe.
