ISO friendly dog

My husband and I live on a 3 acre, small farm, out in the country between Neosho and Seneca. We have 3 kids, 2 boys that are 5 and 3 and are beyond ready for their first dog. The dog will have plenty of room to run, plenty of love, everything. It just has to be friendly towards kids and other animals, preferred smaller-medium breed, and a dog that WANTS to be out doors. Needs the freedom. Preferably no puppies, but not totally against it. Also Preferably no massive breeds, but also, not totally against it. Preferably a male, but once again, for the right female we'd consider. Shoot me a text, with a picture and if we find something that catches our eye, we'll come take a look. Thanks!
