HUNTERSVILLE, NC — A teacher accused of sex abuse barricaded herself in her Huntersville home, where she apparently killed her husband, and then herself, according to authorities. Emma Ogle, 63, was arrested on Halloween for crimes related to a sexual relationship with a student. According to the Huntersville Police Department, police activity in the area was due to the standoff at a house across the street from a school. Media reports say police were called to the home of Emma Ogle about 8 a.m. Wednesday. Lake Norman Charter Elementary School at 10019 Hambright Road in Huntersville was placed on lockdown Wednesday morning; that was lifted about 9 a.m. The lockdown did not affect Lake Norman Charter High School. Ogle, 63, was charged Oct. 31 by Huntersville Police with a crime against nature, indecent liberties with a student and engaging in a sex act with a student. Ogle, who taught at Garinger High School in Charlotte, was a CTE health occupations teacher. Emma Ogle's husband, Michael Ogle, 59, was not at work Wednesday morning and a relative went to check on him. The family member told police she spotted Emma Ogle in the home holding a gun, police said at a press conference. WSOC TV first identified the barricade suspect as Ogle. When SWAT officers entered the Ogle house, they found Emma and Michael Ogle dead from apparent gunshot wounds, Huntersville police said. "Our elementary campus has entered into Code Yellow status," the school said on its website. "Remember Code Yellow status means regular instruction continues, but students remain inside the building (no outside activity). There is police activity in the area, however not on campus. "Our students are safe, however we will remain in this Code Yellow status until police activity has ceased," the school said.
