Job description: House of Rental is a full service Party, Event, Tool & Equipment Rental company with locations in Skokie, Wheeling & Glenview, established in 1969 serving Chicago and the northern suburbs. We are looking for a mechanic and shop technician for our Skokie location to participate in the maintenance and repair of internal and external equipment. Electrical, carpentry and welding knowledge is necessary. The technician will order parts, tools and equipment as necessary. Must be courteous, professional and knowledgeable with customers and staff in regard to safety procedures and rental equipment. Requirements: Maintain accurate records on the maintenance of all repair and usage of all equipment. Order parts and equipment as needed. Follow the daily workload of prioritized work orders. Oversee “Ready to Rent” procedure. Coordinate preventative maintenance schedule with service manager. Stay informed of equipment failures and safety violations. Maintain shop manuals, catalogs and bulletins.. Analyze equipment malfunctions and evaluate and assess feasibility of repair vs. the acquisition of new equipment. Repair power and mechanical equipment. Apply professional troubleshooting techniques to equipment repair. Inspect equipment for rental. Maintain a safe working area. Check and refill equipment fuel. Open the rental yard in the morning. Open all gates and doors. Turn on lights, gas pump and compressor. Clear driveway of returned equipment. Be responsible for the cleanliness and security of yard and shop areas. Comply with government safety requirements and other regulations and security in store. May have exposure to chemicals, including but not limited to gasoline, diesel fuel, propane, kerosene and cleaning solvents. Most work will be indoors with general warehouse conditions, in which some work areas may not be heated or air conditioned. This job requires constant interaction with co-workers and management. This position requires frequent lifting and a significant degree of walking, bending and transporting objects of various weights and dimensions may also be required.
