HUNTERSVILLE, NC — A 7-year-old elementary school student has been charged with several crimes including assault by pointing a handgun after he reportedly brought a loaded gun onto a school bus and allegedly put it up to another student's head during a dispute over a seat.
The incident occurred on a school bus headed to Blythe Elementary School on the morning of Feb. 6.
The 7-year-old boy reportedly pulled out the 9 mm handgun loaded with 15 bullets that he brought from home, WSOC reported.
"A firearm was shown to students on a school bus this morning. It was immediately reported to administrators," school principal, Felisa Simpson, said in a message sent to parents. "All students and staff remained safe."
A student on the bus, however, said the boy did more than just show off the gun.
"He said he wanted to kill me 'cause I sat in his seat," the student told WSOC.
Monday, the boy was charged as a juvenile and now faces two counts of assault by pointing a handgun, bringing a weapon onto a school campus and communicating threats, a spokesperson for the Huntersville Police Department told Patch.
