HUNTERSVILLE, NC — A bank robbery suspect dubbed by federal investigators as the "Bad Wig Bandit" and wanted in a string of North Carolina heists — including one in Huntersville — has been arrested in Georgia while trying to enter a military base, the Federal Bureau of Investigations announced. Patrick Alexander was taken into custody at Fort Benning, Georgia Monday as he attempted to enter the military base, the FBI said. "When Military Police ran his identification, which is standard procedure to enter a military installation, an active robbery warrant was discovered," the FBI said in a statement. Alexander is a suspect in the robbery of four North Carolina banks, as well as the robbery of a Charlotte convenience store: Dec. 13, 2019 robbery of BB&T Bank located at 16710 Northcross Drive in Huntersville, North Carolina Jan. 7 robbery of New Horizon Bank, located at 6440 Wilkinson Boulevard in Belmont, North Carolina Jan. 7 robbery of Wells Fargo Bank, located at 403 Cox Road in Gastonia, North Carolina Jan. 16 robbery of BB&T Bank located at 100 Dana Road in Hendersonville, North Carolina Jan. 23 robbery of Circle K located at 100 Red Roof Road in Charlotte "The suspect is described as a black male wearing a blonde wig, multi-colored shirt, and high heels," Huntersville Police Department said following the Dec. 13 robbery at the Huntersville BB&T Bank branch. Police said at the time the suspect did not use a weapon. SEE ALSO: Police Continue Search For Suspect Who Robbed Bank In Wig By early January, the FBI joined the search for the suspect and released security camera footage of the incident, which showed the suspect walking into the busy bank branch, wearing jeans, a long sleeved shirt with rainbow stripes across the chest, gloves and a cross-body bag. The suspect approached a teller behind a counter and handed her a note. SEE ALSO: FBI Joins Search For Wanted Wig Wearing Bank Robbery Suspect "Alexander is currently facing one count of robbery with a dangerous weapon related to the Charlotte convenience store robbery and one count of common law robbery for the Huntersville bank robbery," the FBI said, adding, "Additional charges are likely." After he was taken into custody, Alexander was transported to the Muscogee County Jail in Columbus, Georgia, where he is currently being held. Teamwork pays off!
