Description
The Maintenance assistant works under the direct Supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, and is expected to help as needed in all aspects of maintaining buildings and grounds. This is an hourly part-time position without benefits. Hours are set by the Maintenance Supervisor and may vary somewhat from week to week. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Assistance with grounds maintenance
• Snow removal from walkways
• Building maintenance, not custodial
• Assistance with construction of furnishings
• Interior and exterior painting and finishing
• Carpentry projects
• Playground equipment maintenance
• Courteous interaction with other school personnel and families in attendance
• Set-up for a variety of school events
• Moving of equipment or supplies for teachers or administrators
• Operation of snow removal and other small equipment.
Essential functions, traits, and abilities required include but are not limited to:
• Carpentry skills; experience in and understanding of methods in shop work
• Knowledge of basic buildings and grounds machinery operation
• ability to do lifting of at least 50 pounds as needed
• ability to work occasionally in dusty or moldy areas
• ability to do rigorous physical labor; good physical condition
• punctuality

• schedule flexibility
• experience with and ability to operate our range of construction power tools
• ability to work with or without close supervision
• ability to work with cleaning and maintenance chemicals such as paint and industrial cleaners, and floor finishes
• familiarity with safety procedures with power tool use
• ability to follow-through independently on regular tasks
• basic plumbing and electrical system understanding
• able to work at a pace to match supervisor’s needs
