Tiny Fawn Rescued From Side Of Freeway

CASTRO VALLEY, CA — California Highway Patrol Officer Manuel Robles-Romero has an amazing story to tell, and photos to back up his story! Robles-Romero received a call last week about a fawn on the right shoulder of I-580 in the Castro Valley area. The baby deer allowed the officer to pick it up. The deer — should we name it Bambi? — was loaded into the patrol vehicle and given a ride off the freeway. The fawn wasn't hurt, so Robles-Romero released it off Eden Canyon Road. According to a social media post from the CHP, the deer "happily galloped into the trees." The CHP's Tyler Hahn told Patch that this is the only recent rescue from the freeway. If you are familiar with that stretch of interstate highway, the fawn was on the right shoulder of westbound I-580 east of Eden Canyon Road.
