The topic this month is How the Civil War Forged America into the Nation We know today. Our speaker this month will be Tom DiGiuseppe, one of the founders and the former President of the Civil War Roundtable of the Merrimack. He is a serious Civil War researcher that has provided historical information for his band, the “2nd South Carolina String Band” and for prolific author A. Wilson Greene. Tom‘s work has resulted in his being interviewed by the Smithsonian Institution and American Battlefield Trust. His talk will concentrate on the early months of 1861, the Virginia Convention, the destruction of the U.S. Gosport Navy Yard, and the beginnings of the Federal Government.
