Fight our throw-away society, save money and help the environment by keeping items out of the landfills. Zero Waste San Diego, in collaboration with Green STEAM Alliance - EcoVamp, Be Creative Zone, San Diego Makers Guild, Find Your Beast and Solana Center for Environmental Innovation, will be hosting a SD Fix-it Clinic. Be a part of this growing, worldwide DIY / fix-it movement! Intercept our throw-away society, save money & the environment by keeping items out of landfills and providing a vital circular economy. Bring your broken, non-functioning things: electronics, appliances, computers, toys, bicycles, clothes, etc. for assessment, disassembly, and possible repair. We’ll provide work-space, specialty tools, and guidance to help you disassemble and troubleshoot your item and it’s all free, though we welcome donations to keep the movement growing! Whether we fix it or not, you’ll learn more about how it was manufactured and how it worked while trusting it won’t end up in a landfill. FAQs Is this event located in the same location each month? Since the COVID pandemic we have put a pause on our in-person clinics but are starting to come back slowly. We love to give more opportunity to the San Diego County community, so we have decided to move the SD Fixit Clinic to different locations within the County. Upcoming Dates and Location: April 9th (La Mesa)April 16th (Carlsbad)April 30th (Encinitas)How is the parking? Parking may be an issues. There are a limited spots availabe at the venue but plenty of parking little bit down the hill. No worries. You can always drop off your item that needs to be repaired while you search for parking. How many items can I bring to the event? Please bring ONE ITEM that needs to repaired and keep in mind we will try our best to solve the problem but not every case is a success. No, this is a free event but please keep in mind this is not a free drop off and fix event. This event is hands-on for people that would like learn how to fix their items themselves with the help of our awesome Coaches. It would be great if you could bring your own supplies, but we will have some to share. There would be costs involved if your item needs additional or replacement parts. We may have some spare parts but it is the responsibility of the attendee to purchase and bring necessary parts the day of the event Will you accept walk-ins? If time permits we will take walk-ins. It really depends on how quickly we can repair the items of the registered attendees. Do you take donations of tools and supplies? Oh boy do we, if you have any old tools you don’t need please bring them into to the next Fixit Clinic and/or email us at [email protected] to arrange drop off locations.
