Izaak Weatherwax Trio lays down an evening of jazz in the twilight at the Asistencia. Sophisticated, informed and without compromise! Back by popular demand! The Isaak Weatherwax Trio features Joshua Childs (Piano), Weldon Scott (Bass) and Izaak Weatherwax (Drums). It is composed of some of LA's finest young working musicians that continue to carry and progress the tradition of improvised music. Joshua Childs is a well accomplished and well studied Piano player and composer from Vermont. He has studied with well respected players and composers such as Tom Cleary, Ray Vega, and LA’s own John Mayer. His Influences for both his writing and playing include; Kenny Barron, Chick Corea, Mulgrew Miller, Michel Petrucciani, and Horace Silver. Weldon Scott, like Joshua Childs is a well versed musician and composer that not only has roots in traditional Jazz music but also in Gospel and Soul music. Weldon Scott is an alumni of Texas Southern University and is currently a student at Cal State Los Angeles. Weldon also has an EP titled “Here I Am” available on all streaming platforms. Izaak Weatherwax is dubbed the bandleader for this collective, orchestrating behind the drums and carrying on the tradition of those such as Art Blakey, Philly Joe Jones, Louis Hayes, and Elvin Jones who have all led their groups as drummers. Izaak has studied with some of the greatest drummers in jazz today, most Notably; Roy McCurdy, Carl Allen, Marvin “Smitty” Smith, and Kevin Kanner. His influences included the aforementioned drummers as well as; Vernell Fournier, Ed Thigpen, Albert “Tootie” Heath, Victor Lewis, And Joe Farnsworth. We'll open the gate at 4:15 for those who want to enjoy a picnic before the show. Bring your own refreshments - all we ask is that you carry out what you bring in. Admission for adults is $15; children under 12 are admitted free. If you want to reserve a table for your party, select one of the options in the tickets. Purchase of a table includes admission for up to 6 or 4 guests, depending on table size. Tables include seating (our chairs accommodate guests up to 250 pounds). You will receive an email confirmation with contact info to share guest names after your purchase. Bring a blanket or chairs for yourself for no cost. We'll help you set up at an appropriate socially distanced spot to enjoy the show. This is a no-pets event. Please leave Fido at home. No smoking or vaping.
