The use of coal has declined each year due to natural gas being cheaper and cleaner to burn. Natural gas is cheaper because it is now more abundant due to fracking. Liberals and environmentalist want government to outlaw fracking which would force us to start using more coal to generate electricity proving once again, liberalism is a form of insanity. Wind power is not cheaper. It would increase the cost of elect energy exponentially were it not not being subsidized by fed government. Obama and biden shut down coal generating plants promising jobs to the workers affected. As usual, they lied. Trump tried to help them by allowing some coal burning plants to reopen but the majority of those plants effected did not come back on line. Who is advocating for the return of coal fired generating plants? No one who has contributed to the discussion has expressed that desire.
